Conference The READS
Fall Conference was held on Friday,
October 24th, 8:30 -3:00 at the Local
Government Center in
Concord. The
conference began with the annual business meeting. Last year's minutes
were reviewed and officer's and committe reports were given. Election
of
officers was held and a change n the by-laws was approved.
President-elect Amy Lapointe was welcomed and Michelle DuBreuil
of Gordon-Nash Library recieved the READS
award. This year's topc was What's
A
Librarian To Do? How
to
best serve your disabled population. Keynote speaker Wendy
Beckwith, accessibility specilist with the Governor's Commission on
Disability, discuused laws governing disabilites, accessibility
of building interiors, and ettiquette for dealing with perons with
disabilities. John Barrett, Talking Books Dvision, NHSL and
Rosemary
HIll, Deaf and Hard of Hering Services, discusion their programs.
Finally, a panel discussed the needs of library patrons with mental
disabilities. Featured on the panel were Cheryl Greiger, Lakes Region
Community Services, Ken Norton, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill,
and Claudia Mayer, Manchester City Library.
