The Great Stone Face Book Award is sponsored by the Children's Librarians of New Hampshire (CHILIS) and is given each year to an author whose book receives the most votes from fourth through sixth graders throughout the state. Each year a committee chooses 25 recently published titles, which children then use as a guide for voting.

The 2009 Great Stone Face winner was announced at the 2009 NHEMA conference, and it probably came as no surprise to the librarians who have been watching the book fly of their shelves that this year's winner is "Diary of a Wimpy Kid", by Jeff Kinney. Congratulations to the author, and thanks to all who participated in the selection process.
The GSF Committee met in April and chose the titles for next year's (2010) list. The new list of nominees can be accessed through the link on the left.
Charlotte Lesser of the Monadnock Regional School District created a power point presentation of the current list of Great Stone Face Award nominees and Nancy Keane embedded podcasts within them. You can find it here: http://www.mrsd.org/files/filesystem/GSF09-10.ppt
You may edit for your own use, but please leave the credits in place.
Ballots may also be accessed through the link at the left. Please mail your ballots to Sarah Hydorn at the address below.
You can order GSf materials by sending your order to Susan MacDonald using the order form to the left.

The Great Stone Face Committee meets monthly throughout the school year to select a list of 25 recently published books for readers in grades 4-6. The main requirements are quality of writing and kid appeal, though we seek to include differing genres, as well as varying sophistication levels, degree of difficulty, and gender interest. The winner is determined by the children’s votes.
The Great Stone Face Tea was held at the NHLA Spring Conference in May. Since there are separate conferences, members traveled to the 2009 NHEMA Conference as well. At the GSF Tea, the latest winner of the Great Stone Face Award is announced: For 2009 Jeff Kinney, for Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The new list was revealed. Committee members booktalk all the titles on the list to give insight for the upcoming year.
New members are always welcome on the GSF Committee. There is a commitment involved, as we attempt to read every book brought to the table. Meetings are held on the second Friday of every month at the Bedford Public Library. Contact Luci Albertson if you are interested.
